The Ventimiglia bloodline was brought to Portugal by a single, highly influential imperial woman: Princess Vataça Lascaris di Ventimiglia (the granddaughter of the Byzantine Emperor and daughter of Count William Peter I of Ventimiglia).
 
 
In 1282, Vataça traveled to Portugal as part of the royal entourage of Princess Elizabeth of Aragon (who became Saint Elizabeth of Portugal) for her marriage to the Portuguese King Denis. Vataça became a chief lady-in-waiting, royal court administrator, and a close confidante to the Queen.
 
 
 
2. Overlap with the Templars in Portugal
When Vataça Lascaris di Ventimiglia arrived in Portugal in 1282, the Knights Templar were at the peak of their power in the country, managing vast strongholds like the Convent of Christ in Tomar.
